US blockade against Cuba affects children and teenagers

United Nations, Feb 12 (Prensa Latina) The US blockade against Cuba has a particular impact on the health and well-being of children and adolescents, Cuban Ambassador Oscar Leon denounced on Wednesday at the UN.

The damage caused by this blockade is not an invention; this mechanism inflicts immeasurable humanitarian damage and is a flagrant, massive and systematic violation of the human rights of the Cuban people, he stressed.

The blockade is an obstacle to the acquisition of technologies, raw materials, equipment, reagents and diagnostic tests, among others, he said in the adoption of the UNICEF Country Program Document for Cuba.

The blockade is an obstacle to the acquisition of technologies, raw materials, equipment, reagents and diagnostic tests, among others, he said in the adoption of the UNICEF Country Program Document for Cuba.

Furthermore, the diplomat regretted that the United States delegation was once again attempting to politicize the work of the Executive Committee, in this case in the process of adopting that agenda.

Leon recalled that children in Cuba receive systematic medical attention by one of the 12,842 family doctors based in each community.

My country is also proud to be the first in the world to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV and congenital syphilis, a validation granted by the World Health Organization in 2015 and ratified last September, he added.

NASA’s ‘space snowman’ reveals secrets: few craters, no water

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — NASA’s space snowman is revealing fresh secrets from its home far beyond Pluto.

More than a year after its close encounter with the snowman-shaped object, the New Horizons spacecraft is still sending back data from more than 4 billion miles away.
“The data rate is painfully slow from so far away,” said Will Grundy of Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona, one of the lead authors.

Astronomers reported Thursday that this pristine, primordial cosmic body now called Arrokoth — the most distant object ever explored — is relatively smooth with far fewer craters than expected. It’s also entirely ultrared, or highly reflective, which is commonplace in the faraway Twilight Zone of our solar system known as the the Kuiper Belt.

Grundy said in an email that to the human eye, Arrokoth would look less red and more dark brown, sort of like molasses. The reddish color is indicative of organic molecules.

While frozen methane is present, no water has yet been found on the body, which is an estimated 22 miles long tip to tip. At a news conference Thursday in Seattle, New Horizons’ chief scientist Alan Stern of Southwest Research Institute said its size was roughly that of the city.

The United Nations Once Again Proves Its Anti-Semitism

The depraved totalitarians, nefarious barbarians, two-bit gangsters, odious scoundrels, and bigoted scum who run the United Nations recently set up a new “database” to help anti-Semites around the world target Jewish businesses in the disputed territories of Judaea and Samaria — businesses that offer economic opportunities for Palestinians that pay higher than most other jobs in the West Bank.

In no other international dispute — and there are hundreds of them — does the United Nations target peaceful civilians or institutions. Certainly in no place do they work to destroy the businesses of noncombatants based on their ethnicity or religion. The 112 companies on the U.N.’s list are run and staffed, no doubt, by people with diverse viewpoints, at least some of whom likely support the creation of a Palestinian state. All of them create jobs, products, and services that foster cooperation.

None of this matters to the U.N. The “boycott, divestment, and sanctions” (BDS) campaign, now supported by the U.N., is a coordinated international effort committed to the elimination of the Jewish state, bringing together dictators, theocrats, terrorist organizations, Communists, the “international community,” and at least one of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’s top surrogates. The movement targets Jews under the guise of anti-Zionism, which remains the predominant justification for violence, murder, and hatred against Jews in Europe and the Middle East.

U.S. senate approves limiting Trump’s war powers against Iran

Washington, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) The U.S. Senate on Thursday passed a resolution aimed at limiting President Donald Trump’s ability to carry out military action in Iran without Congressional authorization.

The measure, which requires Trump to remove the U.S. military from any hostility to Iran within 30 days, passed by a 55-45 vote.

About eight Republicans joined all House Democrats in supporting the legislation, in what the national press called ‘a rare bipartisan effort.

The vote marks the latest attempt to verify the president’s war powers, which evolved significantly, in part with the help of earlier congressional authorizations.

Last year, both the House and the Senate also spoke out to curb the head of state’s ability to continue supporting the war in Yemen, although those measures were similarly vetoed.

European justice supports expulsion of immigrants in Spain

Madrid, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) supported today the expulsion of immigrants made by Spain in Melilla, the autonomous city of this country located in North Africa (Morocco).

In a ruling known on Thursday, the ECHR unexpectedly changed criteria with respect to an initial sentence issued in 2017, when it condemned this country for returning to Morocco two immigrants who had jumped the Melilla fence in 2014.

The court then considered that this practice, consisting in the immediate expulsion of immigrants without an administrative or judicial decision, violated the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

Vietnam prepares tributes to Hung Kings, founders of the nation

Hanoi, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam will celebrate from March 24 to April 2 one of its most important festivals dedicated to the Hung Kings, the founders of the nation, organizers confirmed today.

As usual, the most outstanding celebrations will take place in the northern Vietnamese province of Phu Tho with the placement of offerings and incenses and other rituals in the Upper Temple devoted to the dynasty on Nghia Linh Mountain (about 85 kilometers northwest of Hanoi).

Declared by Unesco, Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the celebration congregates hundreds of thousands of pilgrims every year, while in other areas of the country millions of people observe the date.

According to legend, about 4,000 years ago the fairy Au Co married Lac Long Quan, the dragon king of the sea, and gave birth to a hundred eggs from which 100 children, the first Vietnamese, came out.

In love, but eager to return to his hometown, the dragon-king set sail for half of his children to the sea, and Au Co stayed in the mountains and taught how to grow rice and spin the other 50 children.

The oldest of them settled in Phong Chau (now Phu Tho), adopted the title of King Hung and founded an independent state on Mount Nghia Linh which he named Van Lang. The Hung kings (a succession of 18) ruled Vietnam from 879 BC. to 258 B.C., an era that was characterized by prosperous agricultural development and resounding victories over foreign invaders.

Herbal Remedies for Anxiety Relief

Nature has provided us with several herbal remedies for anxiety, which is a growing problem of our times.

Today, we live in a complex world of high stress and high pressure. Everything needs to be fast, and everything must be good. We have a million possessions to take care of, and a hundred passwords and pin numbers to remember and use.

This type of scenario can make people far more prone to experiencing anxiety. There are many herbs that have nervine, or nerve sedative properties, which can be used as part of an herbal treatment for anxiety. Some are better than others, and some are far better than others. This article will cover the five most powerful and effective nerve sedative herbs for anxiety.

Valerian

The first of the anxiety herbal remedies to be discussed is valerian. Valerian is one of the most powerful nervine herbs there is. You can use it in varying amounts to do anything from calming the nerves, or as a natural sleeping agent. If you have a high quality tincture of valerian, this can be a convenient way to use it. However, for the purpose of a nerve sedative, a tea is usually the most ideal, and most pleasant way to use it.

Passionflower

Passionflower is one of the top nerve sedative herbs in the world, and is one of the best herbal remedies for anxiety. This is the same species that passionfruits come from, although the variety that is used for herbal purposes is slightly different from the variety grown for its fruit.

This is an attractive plant that can be grown in any garden with a mild to tropical summer climate. The Latin name for the medicinal variety is passiflora incarnate. As anti anxiety herbs, the entire flower is used; it can be used to make a tincture, or it can be dried and stored for later use.
