Cubans stranded in Moscow will be able to return to island on special flight

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the Azur Air carrier, has organized a special flight from Moscow next Wednesday, June 3, in which a group of Latin American citizens stranded in Russia will be able to travel to their countries of origin..

The Cuban Consulate in Moscow reported this Sunday that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, in coordination with the Azur Air carrier, has organized a special flight in which several Latin American citizens, including Cubans, stranded on Russian soil will be able to return to their countries of origin.

The flight will leave from Moscow next Wednesday, June 3, with the aim of picking up and repatriating Russian citizens stranded in several Latin American countries, including Cuba. Taking advantage of the fact, and based on the coordination between the local authorities and the embassies in Moscow of the nations involved, “the possibility of returning to their countries of origin will be provided to groups of citizens of those nations who are stranded in Russia.”

“On the aforementioned flight, only Cuban citizens residing in Cuba who had come to the call of the Consular Section to update their immigration status and register their request to return to the country may return to Cuba, after acquiring the air ticket,” the diplomatic mission confirmed on its Facebook account, which does not specify how many capacities will be available.

The statement explains that the registration of requests is in the hands of the Eurasian country’s migration authorities, which will operate the flight dispatch and verify if the passenger in question is registered on the list.

Only those who have actually registered can board the flight, so the Consulate requests that Cuban citizens residing on the island interested in acquiring a ticket contact the Consular Section through the Facebook social network in order to clarify each case.

Police Disperse Protesters with Tear Gas, Rubber Bullets Outside White House as Trump Addresses the Nation

President Trump promised that he “will fight to protect” the nation in an address from the Rose Garden Monday night as protestors clashed with police less than a mile away amid nationwide protests stemming from the death of George Floyd.

“I am mobilizing all available federal resources, civilian and military, to stop the rioting and looting, to end the destruction and arson, and to protect the rights of law-abiding Americans, including your Second Amendment rights,” Trump stated in his address, adding that he was dispatching “thousands and thousands of heavily armed soldiers military personnel” to the nation’s capitol after widespread rioting. “These are not acts of peaceful protest. These are acts of domestic terror,” he warned.

“I will fight to protect you. I am your president of law and order, and an ally of all peaceful protestors,” the president stated.

Trump also proposed to invoke the Insurrection Act, a 19th century law that allows him to deploy the military domestically, if governors do not deploy “the National Guard in sufficient numbers that we dominate the streets.” Earlier Monday, Trump repeatedly told the nation’s governors to “dominate” the situation. Following his address, Illinois governor J. B. Pritzker said on CNN that it would be “illegal” for Trump to deploy troops. While use of the law is rare, then-president George H. W. Bush invoked the law in 1992 to send the military into Los Angeles during the Rodney King riots.

Trump ended his speech by saying he would go “pay respects” to a “very special place,” and then left the White House to walk over and make a visit to the historic St. John’s Episcopal Church — which was burned by rioters on Sunday night.

“Greatest country in the world. And we’re going to keep it safe,” Trump said — while posing for photos with a Bible.

India bets on Cuba’s Itolizumab med to treat Covid-19 patients

June 1 (Prensa Latina) India will carry out clinical trials in six of its hospitals for Cuba’s Itolizumab med to reduce the mortality of Covid-19 disease; unfolded local press this Monday.

The Itolizumab drug is a molecule developed by the Havana Center for Molecular Immunology for the treatment of lymphomas and leukemias, and is now encouraged by Cuban experts as a possible therapy in the Covid-19 treatment, revealed The Print newspaper.

India’s largest biotech company and Asia’s leader Biocon recently received permission from the Indian drug regulator to use the med against the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘Itolizumab had been used in India for some years and its safety was established. Our partners in Cuba, with whom the company began developing the drug, used it in Covid-19 patients. The initial data look quite promising,’ said Dr. Sandeep Athalye, senior Vice President and Chief Medical Director at Biocon Biologics.

The company licensed the drug as an early-stage asset, and the company’s scientific team began developing the antibody for autoimmune diseases in 2006 in India.

Later, successful patient studies made possible the medicine be approved for marketing in India to treat plaque psoriasis in 2013 under the brand name Alzumab.

The drug inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines, which lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome and multi-organ failure in Covid-19 patients. We believe that cytokine storm, which is a complication of the disease, can be treated with Itolizumab, Athalye added.

The trials will be held in New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore for at least three months and all outcomes will be posted to researchers and participants on the course of the treatment.

The Print journal highlighted on its website that the use of two drugs produced by the Cuban biotechnology industry decrease hyper inflammation in severely ill Covid-19 patients; as a result, drastically reduced deaths from the disease.

Of the two drugs boosted as likely reasons behind the low mortality, one of them is Itolizumab.

Cuban researchers say the drug appears to help calm the cytokine storm, a dangerous response by the immune system that attacks healthy tissues, noted the Print daily.
